Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska has successfully advanced past the opening round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open, currently taking place in Melbourne.

Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska has advanced past the opening round of the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season - the Australian Open, currently taking place in Melbourne.
In the first round match, Yastremska, seeded 32nd (ranked No. 33 in the world), defeated Egyptian Mayar Sherif (No. 65) with a score of 6:1, 6:4, as reported by Ukrinform.
Next, the Ukrainian will face Montenegro's Danka Kovinic, who triumphed over New Zealand's Lulu Sun with a score of 6:3, 7:5.
It’s worth noting that last year, Yastremska reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, marking her best result at the Grand Slam level.
The Australian Open 2025 will run until January 26.
