The Canadian Foreign Minister reported this on social media platform X, as conveyed by Ukrinform.

“During the meeting with Marco Rubio, we discussed how we can continue our collaboration in border security, trade, and energy security. We also talked about how we will work together to address key geopolitical issues, including the crisis in the Middle East, the (war) in Ukraine, and the situation in Haiti,” wrote Joly.

She noted that Canada and the United States are “strongest when working together as partners and neighbors.”

For his part, Rubio stated that the meeting focused on “collaboration in border security, energy, and countering China's economic practices.”

As reported by Ukrinform, the new U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his administration would impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada starting February 1.

Earlier, unofficial information emerged indicating that the Canadian government had prepared a list of American goods that would face high import tariffs in response to such a move by the new U.S. administration.
