This was stated by the Dutch Ambassador to Ukraine, Alle Dorhout, in an interview with Ukrinform.
“For the Netherlands, energy is one of the priorities in assisting Ukraine. We have already done a lot to support your country, and we are constantly looking for new opportunities. Our colleagues are in regular contact with the Ukrainian side to understand how else we can help Ukraine get through this winter,” the ambassador noted.
According to him, “over the past three years, the Dutch have supported Ukraine in various ways – morally, with humanitarian aid, reconstruction assistance, economic support, and military aid. So far, 3.8 billion euros have been allocated, but there are plans for another six billion. Thus, the Netherlands has provided over 10 billion euros in military assistance, of which nearly four have already been delivered.”
The diplomat emphasized that the fight against Russian aggression “is not only in the interest of Ukraine but also in the interest of Europe,” as it concerns the protection of security, prosperity, and values.
In this context, he highlighted the importance of Ukraine's accession to the EU, as there is a specific provision regarding security in the Treaty on European Union.
“When the war is over, the EU will certainly have long-term relations with Ukraine, and I believe that everything the EU and its member states are currently doing in terms of providing military assistance to Ukraine will partially shift towards economic support, reconstruction, and so on,” added the Dutch ambassador.
As reported, the Netherlands, together with partners, has invested over 200 million euros in the Tallinn Mechanism, whose main task is to strengthen Ukraine's digital security.
