As reported by Ukrinform, this information comes from the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office.
“The court has granted the claim of the Shepetivka District Prosecutor's Office for the recovery of the land plot from illegal possession and its return to the state, on which the local archaeological monument—a burial mound from the X-XI centuries—is situated. This cultural heritage site and the land it occupies are state property,” the statement reads.
According to the prosecutor's office, during the land reform and decentralization, the area under the burial monument was classified as agricultural land and transferred from state to communal ownership.
As a result, there were real risks of damage to the archaeological monument.
“To prevent the destruction of cultural heritage, the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit to obligate the return of the land to its lawful owner,” the law enforcement agency noted.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, in Khmelnytskyi region, the court has returned to state ownership land plots that house the archaeological site of the Two-Layered Settlement.
