The Chinese government is considering selling the American division of the TikTok platform to the world's richest person, Elon Musk.

According to Ukrinform, this information was reported by Bloomberg citing informed sources.

Under one scenario discussed by the Chinese government, Musk's social network X would take control of TikTok in the U.S. and jointly manage the business.

With over 170 million users in the U.S., TikTok could bolster X's efforts to attract advertisers.

It is known that Musk also established a separate artificial intelligence company, xAI, which could benefit from the vast amounts of data generated by TikTok.

Chinese officials have yet to reach a "consensus on how to proceed, and their discussions are still preliminary".

At the same time, sources indicate that Beijing still prefers TikTok to remain under the ownership of its parent company, ByteDance Ltd.

It is noted that the company is currently challenging a bill passed by the House of Representatives that seeks to ban the platform in the U.S., having filed an appeal with the country's Supreme Court.

However, during court hearings on January 10, the judges indicated that they are likely to support the bill.

As reported by Ukrinform, in March of last year, the U.S. House of Representatives easily passed a bill that could ban the use of the Chinese app TikTok in the United States.

In December, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to postpone the TikTok ban, which is set to take effect on January 19, one day before his inauguration.
